The $ 1.5 billion Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

Monday, June 07 2010, Melinda Gates announced that The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will provide funds amounting to $ 1.5 billion over five years to support projects in the health of mothers and children in all over the world.
Bill Gates, who is the husband of Melinda, as we all know the founder of Microsoft Corp. and one of the world's richest men, announced at an international conference on women's health, which was attended by UN Secretary General, Ki-moon. All of those was being deliver in the event was estimated as the largest women's health conference ever. Gates said the world is less understanding of how to reduce the number of deaths in childbirth.
"Policymakers in countries, both rich and poor countries have been treating women and children, frankly, as if they are not very useful than man," said Gates. "They have wasted an opportunity to improve the health of mothers and babies."
Bill said he felt a new momentum among governments, foundations, companies and humanitarian groups to conduct something more comprehensive approach and coordinated to improve the health of women and children.
"We are seeing a global movement to end the scandal that was not revealed about the death of a mother in childbirth," he said, based on a speech preparation. "We will stop this, and we can."
UN head calls upon government officials, business executives, health professionals and others to submit ideas and proposals before the action plan is completed in the coming months.
"This obstacle is a belief - the belief that we simply must accept the fact that mothers and children die," he said, adding that the world has the knowledge and capacity to rescue women and children. "But in many countries in the belief that death is inevitable, and therefore acceptable, has not changed," he said
Gates said that the Gates Foundation's $ 1.5 billion will be invested through 2014 to support projects dealing with family planning, nutrition and health care for pregnant women, infants and children. Most of the money will support programs in India, Ethiopia and other countries that have relatively high rates of maternal and child mortality rates, he said.
In his speech, Gates said the biggest obstacle to improving the health of women and newborns is not a disease or logistical challenges such as keeping the vaccine cold. []
